Maffra District Hospital has put forward two (2) projects for “Pick My Project” funding.
Both projects have passed through to the public voting stage. The project with the most votes will be successful in securing the grant.
CGH invites staff to vote for the following projects and forward this email to friends and family.
Project One: Day Respite Coordinator
Exercise & Mobility Programs Run by Qualified Allied Health Staff
Maffra District Hospital consists of an acute hospital co-located with an aged care facility. We have identified benefits for aged members of the local community to join with our aged care residents in exercise and mobility programs run by qualified allied health staff. The reciprocal benefits of hosting activities with real health outcomes is that the resident of the facility feels integrated with their community. This is expected to deliver significant physical and mental benefits to the aged community, regardless of their ability to live at home or supported within the facility.
Given that we reside in a rural farming community, the availability of such programs is limited to foster social integration value with the benefits of real health outcomes. This project will go some way to de-mystifying the stigma of residential aged care and promote a community atmosphere and a sense of belonging to the community, in which a majority have lived all their lives. This project will operate numerous activities and programs designed to maintain independence and mobility of all the aged residents of Maffra and surrounds.
Project Two: A Community Orchard & Vegetable Patch
Developing Empty Land to Provide Free Access to Fresh Produce
Maffra District Hospital is beautifully situated in the farming town of Maffra. This building co-locates age care facilities and an acute hospital with many allied health professionals. We are perfectly situated to turn our front lawn into a community orchard and vegetable garden. This major redevelopment would provide real health outcomes to the community, delivering significant mental, physical and relationship benefits by providing the community with fresh produce and the tools to alleviate loneliness. Given that we reside in a rural farming community, the support for this project has been great. This community has the knowledge and infrastructure to deliver this “fruitful” project. There are few projects in our town that have the potential to deliver such health outcomes while de-mystifying the stigma of residential aged care, and promoting a community atmosphere and a sense of belonging to the community, in which a majority have lived all their lives. We have the support of local community groups and our award winning volunteer group. Together we can increase liveability.
